Mabeco is an African Wild Dog. I found it difficult to name this painting, which is funny because wild dogs have so many names. So, I borrowed a name that is already in circulation. Mabeco is the name used in Mozambique for wild dog.
A wild dog’s scientific name is Lycaon Pictus. Lycaon is ‘wolf-like’, and Pictus is Latin for ‘painted’. That’s where the name painted wolf comes from.
When the world was created, God must have had fun exploring abstract art as he randomly splattered the wild dog with paint to create it’s mottled markings.
