The hornbill in this painting is exploring the fynbos of Cape Town, which is not its natural habitat. He is out of place, as I was when I embarked on this large canvas adventure. I stepped way out of my comfort zone here. The canvas and subject in the painting are both representative of this.
I wanted to paint bigger.
This is the second watercolour canvas that I made and primed with watercolour ground.
It took months to make. Each layer of watercolour ground dried for several hours, and several layers had to be applied.
