Her Majesty, a majestic ground hornbill, strutting her stuff with admirers on all sides.

 Her striking facial and throat skin contrasts beautifully with her black feathers. Some say she’s ugly, some say she’s beautiful, but no matter the options, here she is, royalty, and here she is admired. 

The female southern ground-hornbill differs from the male in that there is a violet patch on the throat, rather than just pure red colouration.

These hornbills have one of the slowest reproductive rates in the bird kingdom, producing only one chick approximately every 9 years.
